Mrs. Birdseye's Classroom
About Me
Hobbies
I'm live a very active lifestyle. I love being outside, hiking, swimming, and playing volleyball. I try to run at least two 5k races a year.
I enjoy playing board games, traveling to small towns, exploring the city I live in, spending time with my husband and cats, and visiting my family.
I am passionate about working with children, and I love watching them grow into their own individual person.
School and Career
I attended the College of Saint Scholastica, where I was studying for Occupational/Physical Therapy. I changed my major and transferred to Augsburg College where I studied Elementary. I transferred to the University of Wisconsin River-Falls to finish my degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.
I student taught at Lily Lake Elementary School, in Stillwater, MN. I spent the first 8 weeks of student teaching in a Fifth grade classroom, and the last 8 weeks in a Kindergarten classroom.
Upon graduating, I accepted a Preschool Teacher position at Stepping Stones Early Learning Center in Woodbury, MN (2019).
I accepted a full-time teaching position with the South Washington County School District as a Pre-Kindergarten Readiness Teacher at Pullman Elementary (2019-2020). I finished the school year teaching PreK online due to COVID.
The 2020-2021 school year I am teaching First Grade at Hudson Prairie Elementary School. This years teaching style is a bit different than other years. I have students that are participating in a synchronous style of learning from home, while having students in person as well.
Classroom Wishlist
Like most teachers, I am revamping things to ensure a safe classroom environment for my students (in person and virtually), while continuing to build my classroom library with a diverse collection of books with protagonists and experiences that feature underrepresented ethnicities, disabilities, cultural or religious backgrounds, gender nonconformity, or LGBTQIA+ orientations, and beginning reader books.
Our class independent reading goal is 30 minutes a day. The first two weeks of school, we have made it to 20 minutes of independent reading a day! My students love to read, and I want to continue to promote the joy of reading to my first graders.
If you would like to donate to support my classroom of excited readers, I would greatly appreciate it.
